Anick Boulet was born in Chibougamau, Quebec.
She grew up surrounded by magnificent, wild, and bountiful nature, an environment that profoundly shaped her perspective and sensitivity. From a young age, creativity came naturally to her, taking on diverse forms and manifestations.
She obtained a diploma in graphic design and a bachelor's degree in visual arts in Montreal, then accumulated extensive experience in the arts community. She notably served as artistic director for theatre and dance productions, designed costumes and sets, and worked at an artist-run centre as a graphic designer, programming assistant, and exhibition installation assistant.
Since the end of her studies, Anick Boulet has participated in numerous artistic events, solo and group exhibitions, while pursuing a constant process of improvement through various training courses.
She now lives in Sainte-Martine, south of Montreal, where the surrounding countryside nourishes and inspires a multidisciplinary and evolving artistic practice.
About my approach
The desire to create vibrant, comforting, and contemplative worlds lies at the heart of my artistic approach. Both in painting and sculpture, my works reflect the sensitive dialogue I maintain with nature. Constantly in motion, nature has always fascinated me with its power and truthfulness, and this is what nourishes my art.
A natural phenomenon of rare intensity, life is stronger than anything. It emerges, persists, and flourishes, even in the most unexpected conditions. My main sources of inspiration are the wild landscapes of my native region, bodies of water, and the plant world.
My work is also influenced by surrealism and minimalism. I explore uncluttered compositions, both in terms of form and color. I focus on a single subject, imbued with poetry, love, and freedom. A fusion of dream and reality that inspires me to create wondrous worlds.
In painting, it is the unique texture that gives my works their full personality. Boldly, I have developed a mixed-media technique to create extraordinary reliefs. Thus,
I stage abstract patterns and landscapes with simplicity and harmony.
My sculptures, on the other hand, seem alive and emanate from another world or a fictional flora. Their organic forms evoke the blossoming of life. Wood and metal are my preferred materials, both in sculpture and design.
I also design furniture in the manner of a sculptor. Each piece is unique and showcases raw materials as well as wood species from Quebec, harvested in an eco-responsible way.
My latest medium is artistic video with a playful and humorous touch. By exploring the theme of the mouth, I create links between expression and contemplation.
My art is constantly evolving. I refine the techniques I've already developed while leaving ample room for exploration. A texture, an emotion, a material, a plant motif, a memory can be the spark that ignites the conception and creation of a work.
Creating gives me a feeling of freedom, relaxation, and symbiosis with my subject—a state I wish to convey. I want my works to be both gentle and soothing, yet also vibrant and energizing. Like a forest bath, I want the viewer to feel at ease and drawn to reflect.
